In the Caribbean, as elsewhere, all healthcare professions are regulated by a Professional Council or Authority. Such Councils are the only bodies mandated by law to grant licenses for professional practice within a sovereign territory and are generally required to maintain a Register of bona-fide practitioners, monitor qualifications, and provide for the best interests of the profession, among other things. The lack of supporting technology systems employed by Healthcare Councils however, can mitigate their ability to carry out their legally mandated functions.
